The Sweet Scallops Mat Pattern is perfect as table placemats, tray liners, hot pads, trivets or for anywhere you want to add a spot of soft, quilted texture. It would make a perfect gift, for your home, family and friends.

The Sweet Scallops Mats can be made from yardage, orphan blocks, cutter quilts or fat quarters. They can be made as groups of placemats or single mats for gifts or around the home.

Skill level: Beginner+
Although the design involves curves, the pattern is designed and instructions written to be suitable for beginners and seasoned sewists/quilters.

Finished size (approximately):
The cover mat is 16” x 16” (WxL), but the templates and instructions are given for mats from 8” to 16”.

You will receive, 10 pages of step by step instructions with helpful tips to make mat in sizes from 8” to 16” along with an option to make the mat into a pillow.

You will need:
Quilting cotton, linen or canvas
For all your main pieces. You can make it reversible or one sided, choosing fabrics to work for you.

Cotton betting
To quilt the top and/back if you are making it reversible.

Medium-weight fusible interfacing
If you prefer not to make your mat quilted, you will need to add interfacing to your top and backing fabrics.

Equipment and tools:
Rotary cutter, cutting mat, quilting ruler, scissors, thread, iron, Wonder clips/binding clips, pins, fabric marking pen, seam ripper, basting spray or pins, a hand-sewing needle for stitching the binding on, walking foot (optional).
